CLIMATE CHANGE - an issue of horror

Global community experienced the threat none ever before the issue like Climate Change. Nature’s behavior has been regularly irregular and erratic. The basic securities of food, water, energy, livelihood and human life highly threatened. Bangladesh has been identified as most vulnerable country by the scientists and policy makers across the world. Adverse impact already been started, extreme events like severe cyclones and increased salinity in the coastal region, prolonged and repeated floods and river bank erosion in the northern and central parts, drought in the northwestern parts, and increased salinity conspire against the country and force us to confront the various insecurities economically, socially and environmentally. It is apprehended that the possible sea level rise will affect the country by inundating coastal areas of Bangladesh. Possible sea level rise will affect the coastal ecosystems, water, and agriculture and food production. One meter sea level rise may dislocate about 35 million people from coastal districts by the year 2050, if not earlier. These may create severe problems for rural livelihood, local, regional and sectoral development such as agriculture, water and health. The emerging climate refugees will put enormous pressure on the urban economy and infrastructure as well as on basic services such as water supply, power, health, sanitation and demand for energy. One nation cannot address the said problem. It needs concerted, coordinated effort of global community. Bangladesh should have own strategic plan in adaptation based on proper assessment in present and future climate impacts. We believe in short future we would get national decision regarding our doings. BISAP trying different program on Climate Change Adaptation Option Promotion in Chittagong, Chittagong Hill Tracts & Cox’s Bazar with it’s limited resource and expertise. We are trying to bringing change in mindset of community people, “we should face our problem. We must find our own solution.” Through our program we promote austerity (sasrai-Movement) aimed at less contributing in global warming. People getting awareness on global warming resultant climate change – climatic impacts. People are asked to identify their problems, risk and root cause of those in participatory way. Having that list they again asked find the way out of those problems. Community people are upgrading themselves to find the problem, causes of problem and solution of problem. People are thinking, planning and trying in different way being saved from current climatic impacts like drought, heavy rainfall and cool. Our major thrust is economy and caring use of natural resources highly accepted by the community. We are on process to introduce the program in educational institution bringing significant behavioral and attitudinal change child to adult approach.
